Mission
The Edmonds Mukilteo Action Committee is a neighborhood-based, non-profit citizen action committee founded with this purpose: to protect the unique quality of life in the Picnic Point Valley, Snohomish County, Washington, including encouraging responsible development while supporting local environmental and economic interest.
Our Current Initiative:
Snohomish County is considering a proposal by a developer called Horseman’s Trail that involves clearcutting 23 acres of Picnic Point area forest and building 112 small houses 10 feet apart. If this proposed subdivision is approved by Snohomish County, the following will occur:
- The destruction of 23 acres of forested land, home of dozens of documented species of birds and animals
- The real possibility of landslides, erosion and flooding with the land having steep slopes and their plan to bulldoze 60 foot high hills and fill in a 40 foot ravine
- Irreparable damage to the health of Picnic Point Creek, the Picnic Point Watershed, and the salmon found in the area
- Major traffic and road congestion
- Increased air pollution and noise
- The decline in quality of education at Picnic Point and Serene Lake Elementary Schools due to the overpopulation of classrooms
- Severe negative impact on public services including Sheriff, Fire, and sewage treatment
